MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

My latest make up obsession comes in the form of Mac Mineralize Skinfinish natural in light. I've been using a loose powder for so long and I fancied a change. So off to Depop I went in search of an alternative and came away this this little number in the form of a pressed powder.

This is a gorgeous baked powder that is perfect for finishing off my make up and mattifying any shiny areas. I love the marbled texture of this powder and when it is the light it has hints of highlighter to give you that subtle glow to your make up. The colour matches my skin pretty perfectly so it doesn't leave that dreaded orange tinge to my foundation. I also enjoy how finely milled this is, it doesn't leave that crispy, cakey feeling on the skin after you've applied it. Lastley, it's also great for building a little colour in the cheeks. If I'm feeling like a no make-up, make-up day I can apply this a few times to the apples of my cheeks and develop a subtle colour.

This has certainly taken pride of place before my loose powder, for the time being. This is far less messy and takes me seconds to apply, then I'm shine free for the rest of the day.

The Bathory: Detox Bath Salts.

I adore having a bath. It's no secret that I love to lounge around in a steaming tub and let my worries be carried away. I'm a big fan of gorgeous smelling bath products and bath salts are one of my all time favourite treats. The Bathory very kindly allowed me to make up my own personalised bath salts* to help me chillax and rejuvenate after a long day at work.

The Bathroy website is really fun. You first choose your salt type and then you choose three oils to be added to the salt to create your own unique bath salts. I went with 'Detox' which are Epsom Salts with clay, I then chose my three essential oils which were eucalyptus, bergamot and sandalwood. And let me tell you, they smell incredible. I got these from the post office and before I'd even opened them I could smell them through the packaging - amazing.

Now onto bath time. These salts completely chill me out. I feel relaxed and so much more calm once I've used these in my bath. I've used them completely alone and also mixed with one of my not-so-strongly scented bubble baths. These salts are an absolute treat and I've been completely converted from my usual bath salt from Burt's Bees (although they do smell pretty good too), and will be experimenting more with The Bathory salts in the future.

Do you enjoy bath salts?

OTTD: Blue for You.

Dress - WalG*
Necklace - Black Heart Creatives*
Boots - New Look

The sun made a small appearance again this weekend, much to mine and the hubby's surprise, so of course I persuaded him to be my photographer again. I received this pretty dress from WalG and couldn't wait to try it on. Blue isn't a colour I go for very often, but I actually quite like the blue contrasting with my super pale skin. This is a really flattering shape too and actually comes in at my waist and flares a little out over my hips. I love the v-neck style too, which adds a little something extra to this beauty. I'm heading to a wedding in July and think this dress could be perfect for the evening, especially if the sun is shining!

Just for a heads up, I teamed this dress with my MAC Morange lipstick and I think the colours look fab together. This is definitely a combo I will try in the future and I think I may have been converted to wearing more blue!

If I was a Rich Girl.

Untitled #65

Sometimes being a student is hard. Some people have a misconception that all students have a tonne of money, but my loan goes on rent and I have very little money to spend a month. We're hopefully buying a house too, so any extra pennies are being saved for lovely home ware! Anyway, I've made a mini wishlist of the things I'd like to buy over the next year or so. It takes me quite a while to save up for anything so I'm hoping to get some birthday money in June and buy some of my beauty picks.

I'm feeling a little pale now my Cyprus-glow has disappeared and I've heard Clarins is good place to start for facial tanning. The Liquid Bronze Lotion has been raved about for as long as I've been in the blogging world and I think it's about time it made it's way to my shelf. Clarins' latest tanning offering came out last month and promises easy tanning for everyone. The Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster is to mix with your daily moisturiser to give you a subtle hint of colour throughout the day.

I currently don't own any Bobbi Brown or Chanel make up, which is a little sad for me. I've heard great things about the Bobbi Brown Correcter and I think this is just what I need to pop under my eyes when the dark circles appear. The Vitalumiere Aqua is one of Chanel's most talked about foundations and it just sounds perfect for me. I love a light coverage and I think this might be just what I've been looking for.

I couldn't make a wishlist without adding a little Jo Malone to the mix. Every time I pass a counter, I have to take a moment to spritz my favourite scents. At the moment I'm loving the English Pear and Freesia, it's perfect for the summer months and leaves me smelling fruity and fresh. The latest candle offerings from JM are some of my all time faves, this Green Tomato Leaf candle just brings back some many nostalgic memories I definitely need it for my new house.

What's on your wishlist at the moment?

Top 10 under £10.

I love nothing more than a good bargain so I thought I would jump on the 'Top 10 under £10' bandwagon and give this post ago. Plus, I really love reading other people's picks so feel free to have a nosey at mine.

Johnson's Baby Bedtime Bath - £1 (Poundland): The ultimate bathtime treat without a hefty price tag. This is perfect for unwinding and not overpowering as it's designed for babies. Pretty good sized bottle for £1 too.

Bleach London  Silver Shampoo - £5 (Boots): Without a doubt the best silver-toning shampoo I've tried. If you are looking for a cheap way to get rid of brassiness in your bleached/blonde hair give this little number a whirl.

EcoTools Brushes - Range of prices (Boots): I actually prefer these to my Real Techniques brushes, I just feel as if the brushes are a little bit softer and more delicate on my sensitive skin. I've also spotted these in TKMaxx, so go grab yourself a bargain.

No7 Beautiful Skin - £9.50 (Boots): I grabbed this when I had a No7 voucher so this was a tiny £4.50. I love the texture of this and the way it removes all of my make-up. A definite winner for me, full post here

L'Oreal True Match - £9.99 (Superdrug/Boots): I loveeee this foundation. I don't think I need to say much about it as I've dedicated an entire post to it here.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - £4.49 (Superdrug/Boots): One of the best drugstore finds out there at the moment. This has been raved about a LOT in the blogging world over the last year or so. If you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for?!

Olive Body Butter - Range of prices (The Body Shop): I love TBS and their body butter never disappoint. I'm obsessed with the Olive range at the moment and this little mini is about to be repurchased. These are the perfect thing as an alternative to after sun.

Topshop Lipsticks - £8 (Topshop): Amazing pigmentation, amazing price. Topshop really know how to make a good lipstick and I've yet to be disappointed. So far my favourite is Rio Rio, but I'm dying to get my hands on a few more colours.

L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara - £9.99 (Superdrug/Boots): Love this mascara, there is nothing that I don't enjoy about it. Great lash coverage, super voluminous and jet black. Perfection in a bottle. Full review here.

Bourjois Java Rice Powder - £9.99 (Superdrug/Boots): The ultimate muti-tasking product. This a powder come highlighter all in one and give you the most gorgeous glow to your skin. A must for anyone's make up bag.

Easter Weekend.

Every since getting my 'proper' camera I've sort of neglected my trusty iPhone camera. So this weekend I took to taking some snaps (as my Nana would say) on my good ol' mobile. I'm obsessed with finding great apps too, so when I discovered VSCOcam (which is free) I had a whale of a time adding filters to my pics and paying around. I thought I would share a few photos from my Easter weekend, they're a mixture of Knutsford, Mawdesley, Wigan and Astley House. We took full advantage of the nice weather and spent most of the bank holiday outside exploring new places and a few old favourites, enjoy!

All photos have filter C1 applied from the VSCOcam app.

The New Way to Apply Make Up.

Photos taken with loose powder and blusher underneath my foundation

A few weeks ago I read a really interesting post from Claire over at Agent Smyth  all about applying powder before foundation. Claire got the inspiration from Wayne Goss on YouTube, who I've subscribed too for so long and watch religiously, but some how missed this video. Ayway after reading Claire's post, I popped over to watch the vid (here) and I've been giving the whole loose powder under foundation a go. And so far so good. My foundation literally does not budge during the day, I was a little concerned about not applying powder over my foundation and it leaving me just a little too shiny, but because the power soaks up excess oils in your skin, my foundation applies matte and stays that way.

I haven't done this post to rip-off Claire's, I've actually done this because Wayne had a new video out last week about applying blusher under foundation too (here). The idea behind this is you can apply as much blusher as you like - you do resemble a clown, and then apply foundation over the top so the blush gives you a very natural finish. I've found applying Nars Orgasm under my L'Oreal True Match foundation gives me a really subtle flush to my cheeks. On the photos above, the only thing I have applied on top of  my foundation is highlighter - nothing else.

I love this new style of applying my foundation. I know now if my blusher looks a bit too full-on, it doesn't matter once my foundation is applied. As I have 'normal' skin type, I'm not particularly oily at all, but I know that I can now apply my foundation over loose powder and not have to think about it for the rest of the day. I'm really happy with this new technique and if you are looking for a really natural, subtle look I would definitely recommend giving these two tips a go.

OOTD: Lets Go To the Beach.

Dress - Poppylux*
Shoes - Primark
Nails - 'Walking on Sunshine' from Deborah Lippmann*

First up Happy Easter everyone! The North West seems to finally have a bit of sunshine so me and the hubby took full advantage of the sun being out and popped to Blackpool for the day. I also thought it would be a fun chance to take some OOTD photos, while we were out and about. I obviously didn't contemplate how windy it was going to be, but I think you get the jist of this cute dress. I'm obsessed with daisy's and foral prints, and I'm completely in love with this smock-style number

This is the second item from Poppylux, I've received and the quality and designs are just perfect. I love how girly this dress is and just looks so lovely with tights, but I bet this will look fab in the summer with bare legs too. I matched up my sweet little dress with some bright nails. I think this colour certainly lives up to it's name and fitted it perfectly with the sunny weather.

You can check out Poppylux website here and find more bright nail varnish colours over at Beauty Expert here.

P.S. I've popped a few more photos from Blackpool underneath - we got a little carried away in the arcade...

New In: Candles.

Yankee have always been a little hit or miss for me. I love the scents but the candles in those 'jar' shaped pots very rarely burn evenly and I feel as if I've wasted a lot of product. Just after Christmas I managed to get a candle in one of these 'tumbler' type of jars and it burned perfectly and used every bit of the product, ever since then I've been converted to this style.

After having a rubbish day earlier this week, and being sent home from work ill, I thought I needed to treat myself. I spotted these is Asda in a gift pack, these two candles cost me £12, which I thought was a pretty good deal as they were around £8 each.

The pack contained Pink Honeysuckle, which is a gorgeous sweet, florally scent, that's really fresh. I think it reminds me of a lovely smelling washing powder and fills the rooms with a gorgeous smell - definitely one for Spring. The other candle is Vanilla Frosting, which smells very much like the Christmas Cookie scent which is one of my all time faves. The smells is really sweet but not over powering and just makes me feel 'at home'. It's one of my go-to candles if I'm feeling a little down and want a comforting pick-me-up.

These are definitely my preferred style of Yankee Candle, along with the other styles in the Simply Home range. They seem to burn so much more evenly than the jars. Having said that, it still hasn't put me off wanting the Easter Yankee Candles - Bunny Cake sounds perfect!

Have you tried this style of Yankee?

An Ode to my Favourite Bubble Bath.

I'd just like to take a moment to appreciate my all time favourite bubble bath. I'm quite surprised that this hasn't made it's way onto my blog before now, but this is the ultimate relaxing bubble bath that I am utterly obsessed with.

I first discovered Clarins Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate last June, when my hubby picked it up for my birthday. I'm a huge fan of baths so he thought he would treat me to something a little special. I'm now onto my third bottle and this still feels like a treat every time I use it.  I actually got this bottle from duty free for around £14 as I had a few euros left and I knew I needed this in my life again, but it's priced around £17-£19 depending on where you pick this up. It does sound like a pricey number but a little really goes a long way, and I would expect this bottle to see me through the summer.

The scent of this is really hard to describe. The bubble bath has essential oils, chamomile and basil to give a really soothing, relaxing aroma. This is designed to de-stress and relax you and your muscles after a hard day at work. I generally use this once a week, usually on a Sunday, to get me chilled and ready for the week ahead. I always feel much calmer and happier when I've spent 20 minutes soaking in this loveliness.

If you're looking for an extra-special bubble bath or a treat once a week, get yourself a sample of this baby - trust me you won't regret it.

This is actually on offer at here

Ready for the Sunshine.

The sun has officially made an appearance this week and even though I've only managed to catch a few rays from 5pm, it's still got me well and truly in the mood for summer time make up. The biggest change in my make up bag will certainly be my lip colours. MAC Rebel will be retiring from it's duties as my statement lip colour until the days get darker again. Instead I've made a switch round to Morange for the summer months, to brighten up my lips even if it's cloudy.

Nudes are acceptable any time of year, in my opinion. So this lippy from Sleek in Barely There is the perfect spring/summer nude. It's not too crazy and won't wash me out, but instead gives me a nice subtle colour with a hint of pinkiness to add a flush of colour. This will be perfect for those days I'm wanting that no-make-up, make up look.

Of the lip products I've tried recently this one from P.S. Love in Primark has to be one of the strangest. This is very much like applying a felt tip pen to my lips. This lip stain is a corally-pink colour and literally stains your lips. I originally swatched this on my hand in store and noticed that even at the end of the day the swatch hadn't budged, then I knew I needed to pick on of these up next time I was in store. I'm not sure how I feel about this on it's own at the moment, but I think it will look fab under another lippy and give me some super lasting power for those sweaty days.

What are your favourite lip colours for summer?

OOTD: Creme De La Creme.

Jumper - Wearall*
Leggings - George @ Asda
Sandals - Primark
Headband - Topshop

I'm desperate to finally put my winter coat away to make way for lighter jackets and summer dresses, but I haven't quite managed to say goodbye to comfy winter clothes just yet. This super comfy jumper is from, who very kindly allowed me to pick an item to review. The jumper is really soft and not too thick to still be wearing it as the weather gets warmer, in replacement of my coat.

I thought I would make this outfit a little more summery by popping on a floral head band and wearing my sandals that I'm pretty much obsessed with. I can't wait until it's warm enough to crack out my shorts and skirts without having to wear 100 denier tights! This jumper would look perfect with a pair of cute shorts and flip-flops to sit around a BBQ on a summer's evening..

This jumper is an absolute steal at just under £10, you can check out more bargains from here.

The Reverse Hair Wash.

I will be honest, I'm not a big newspaper reader or fan, for that matter. But when I saw this article floating around twitter I thought I would take notice. Being in Cyprus when I originally read it, I thought there was no better time to give the 'reverse hair wash' a go. And so I did.

I will be honest, the first time I did this it was very strange. I didn't notice a huge difference at first and it wasn't until I'd gone nearly a week without washing my hair again, that I thought wow. And so I've continued to do this the last few times I've washed my locks and I feel as though my hair is getting softer and cleaner by the wash.

The thing that really made me want to try, was the article explaining that we don't always wash our conditioner out properly. We all know how thick conditioner is and I certainly know how awful my hair can feel if I didn't manage to rinse it properly. So in theory, the more product left in your hair, the duller and heavier you barnet will be.

Using conditioner first and shampoo second does feel kind of weird. But my hair isn't knotted or tangled when I get out of the shower and it doesn't resemble a bird's nest, because I haven't used conditioner after my shampoo. The images above are of my hair just blasted with a hair dryer and then left to it's own devices. I know it's hard to tell what hair feels like from a photo, but trust me, it's super soft and feels squeaky clean. The biggest improvement for me is the length of time I can leave my hair between washes. I generally wash it every three days or so, but I've managed to get it down to every 4-5 days depending on what products I've used on it.

The reverse hair wash has definitely converted me, and if you want lighter, softer feeling locks I suggest you give it a whirl.

Gold Dust.

If you follow me on Instagram (katieatki) you may have seen a sneaky pic of this necklace already. If you haven't seen it yet, let me introduce you to my gorgeous personalised necklace* from Black Heart Creatives. The lovely ladies made up this amazing necklace for me and my blog, which is just perfect.

The necklace it's self is super good quality acrylic and really well made. I think the gold chain looks really pretty with the gold font and the black backing really makes the necklace 'pop'. This is one of the new font/colour combinations in black and gold, which we thought Gold Dust would work perfectly with. The hubby and I decided that this necklace would be perfect for attending blogging events, no longer do I need to say my blog name, I can just point to this little number!

This was such a lovely and thoughtful treat from Black Heart Creatives, and the lovely people from BHC thought they could treat my readers too. Just pop 'Gold25' into the checkout to receive 25% off your order (valid until 20/4/14).

You can find this font combination here, happy shopping!

The Perfect Drugstore Moisturiser.

I'm extremely late on the band wagon when it comes to the Garnier Moisture Match. This was one of those quick impulse purchases, I'd ran out of my current moisturiser and wanted something to tide me over until I got a replacement. However, I have well and truly fallen in love with this drugstore offering.

This tube set me back a tiny £2.50 in Body Care and I just can't get enough of it. So much so, I've held off the search for a new higher-end moisturiser in favour of this. I have normal to slightly dry skin, depending on the time of year and right now it's behaving it's self. After a mad rush before Cyprus I wanted a moisturiser with SPF in so I didn't need to put regular sun cream on my face (which breaks me out no end) so the SPF 20 in this little bottle was what sold it to me. I didn't expect much and was looking at this as a short term fix to protect my skin whilst in the sun. It did that and so much more.

The consistency is super light-weight even though it does contain an SPF. I don't feel like this cloggs my pores at all and my make up glides on nicely after I've let this soak in. I use a pea sized amount on a morning and that completely covers my face and doesn't leave any residue like some SPF containing moisturisers do. This smells pretty good too. I wouldn't say it's perfumed as such, it's quite a nice natural smell and isn't overpowering at all. But the thing I like most about this, is the fact it does seem to be the exact consistency for my skin type. I always find it difficult to get a decent moisturiser that isn't tailored to dry or oily skin, but this is just about perfect for us normal-skinned girls.

I'm sure you all are aware there are moisturisers in the range all aimed at every different skin type, so you never know, this could be the moisturiser you've been hunting for too. I recommend checking Savers and Body Care for deals as this was around half the price of Boots and Superdrug.

Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum.

This time of year my skin has a bit of a melt down. It doesn't seem to cope very well with the change over from central heating to air conditioning at work and starts to get all sorts of dry patches and flaky skin. That's where the Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum* comes in. This serum is designed to sit under your moisturiser to give an added moisture boost to your skincare regime.

This is a clear serum with a gel-like texture, I have to immediately apply moisturiser after this as it can leave my face a little sticky. My make up goes on well after using this and a moisturiser combined and my skin seems to be adapting to the air-con blasting away, without flaking off. I've only been using this on a morning as I use a facial oil before bed and think that would result in a little moisturiser over-kill if I used both together.

Unfortunately, this has been breaking me out a little bit. Just those really tiny pimples but enough for me to notice. With that in mind, this serum is going to be put aside for those days where my skin is in desperate need for a moisture boost.

You can pick up this serum and other Avene products from Escentual here.

Have you tried this?

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick.

Okay, so duty free may have got the better of me. I've been dying to try some of the YSL lipsticks for so long and I thought duty free was the perfect opportunity. I knew I needed to try one of the Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks, not only for their gorgeous finish but also for that amazing packaging

I happily settled for number 12 'Pretty in Paris' which is an amazing Barbie pink-esque colour but very wearable. This is the perfect shade for everyday wear and masters that your-lips-but-better look down to a tee. I wasn't sure what to expect texture-wise with this but YSL have definitely thought this through. This a really buttery, lip balm-like texture that just sits perfectly on the lips. I have very dry lips in general and this didn't dry them out at all, not even in the Cyprus sunshine.

Surprisingly the staying power on this is incredible, especially for a balmy texture. I wore this on an evening and didn't need to top up once, despite drinking some yummy cocktails. In fact, I fell head over heels in love with this lipstick, so much so I picked up another YSL number on my way back through customs. I did pick up a different formula to try too, so watch this space for a review.

Let me know your YSL recommendations.
